It all began with a fabulous but slightly crazy legend...
This legend began long ago — let’s say, 1,000 years ago.
Mount Ventoux already towered over the region, and a small village had grown up at its foot. One day, the villagers found themselves besieged by invaders. Not knowing how to defend themselves, they came up with a bright idea...

... throw beehives at them! Crazy, right? But it worked! The attackers fled, driven off by thousands of bees. The buzzing of the bees was deep, powerful, and protective. The villagers thought they heard a whisper... A whisper so moving that it gave the village its name: Murmurium, the ancestor of Mormoiron, a story we loved to hear as children. Our winery is a way of keeping it alive: the protective bees adorn our coat of arms and are present in our vineyards, guardians of the environment. We live with them, we make wine with them - and the Ventoux landscape would be nothing without them...
A family of wine producers since 2008
MUR•MUR•IUM was founded in 1995, at the foot of the Ventoux mountain, by a former pharmacist who had retrained as a biodynamic wine producer. In 2008, when our father, Marc Pichon, took over, the estate covered 15 hectares. After his tragic death in 2016, our aunt Véronique took over, but since 2024, the two of us have been at the helm. Today, the domaine comprises 50 hectares of vines, a team of 6 loyal and highly professional employees and a portfolio of 16 wines.
Two brothers, two paths...
For Émile, it was finance: business school, a master’s degree in banking and financial engineering, and a burgeoning career in Paris with a fintech company specialising in currency hedging.
For Niels, it was the vineyards: a BTS (two-year technical diploma) in viticulture and oenology, and early work experience in wineries close to home (Château Gigognan, Château Bellini, etc.) or very, very far away, in Australia. But all roads led to MUR•MUR•IUM… We came back for the family. That’s what the wine domaine is all about. We embarked on this adventure with the promise we would give it our very best shot and build a brand worthy of our Ventoux region.
A new lease of life for the domaine
Our father, Marc, was a self-taught and unconventional wine producer. From the very beginning - long before organic certification was obtained in 2018 - he worked the vineyards with a deep respect for nature and the living world. A free spirit, he listened first and foremost to his customers and made wines with great mastery, taking advantage of the diversity of soils and grape varieties. He was a pioneer, daring to make some of the first single varietal wines from this terroir. Today, we continue the story in our own unique way.
Our vision of wine
Our vision is that of a new wave of wine made by a generation that is even more respectful of the living world, yet not afraid to break the rules, to demystify the product and make it more accessible. Making wine isn't easy. Loving it should be. So we keep it simple. Everything we produce is guided by our family values: freedom, friendliness and simplicity. Our compass is pleasure, the senses and emotions. MUR-MUR-IUM is a wine that brings people together: our doors are always open, whether you come from the neighbouring village or the other side of the world. It's a place to celebrate, to share, to meet great people over a good bottle of wine...
